[READ ME] Troubleshoot why a petrol / gasoline engine won't start — DIY how to test and check a spark plug with a multimeter. Spark plugs can, "go bad" suddenly, for no apparent reason, or begin misfiring resulting in not starting, difficult starting and/or lumpy, erratic operation. 👉 Also, I forgot to mention that if the ohm test from one end of the central electrode to the other end of the central electrode shows OL (“Open Line” or “Open Loop”) on a multimeter, it means there is a break in that electrode somewhere and it will never spark. 👉 Most every spark plug that I know of will show some electrode resistance, but if that resistance is way too high (let's say, more than 15k (15,000) ohms) there may/will not be enough voltage (especially with pull-start engines) to jump the gap consistently and reliably to create a spark between the inside-the-combustion-chamber end of electrode and the earthed chassis of the spark plug that's screwed into the cylinder head. 👉 Fitting the correct spark plug and setting the correct gap is IMPORTANT. 👉 DISCLAIMER: HowToBloke is not a professional or qualified automotive engineer, motor vehicle mechanic or motor vehicle tester.
