The 2009-2017 F150's all have the same transmission. The transmission had just started giving a faint shudder in 5th and 6th gears. It would happen every 10-20 seconds or so and last 2-3 seconds. It felt like a vibration, driving on a rough road or going over rumble strips. It'd been doing it for 3-4 weeks and I had Ford run a diagnostic on it ($179 fee). They hooked it up to a computer and put a stethoscope in the dash to listen to the torque converter. After a road test they told me my torque converter was going bad and quoted me $4,600 to replace it. I asked if a fluid change would help it and they said "No, that may make it worse". After some research I found this to be a common issue and many (if not most) fixed it by 1) Adding Shudder Fixx or 2) Changing transmission fluid (Mercon LV) and filter 3) Both 1 & 2. Some reports were that they've went 40-50k miles SO FAR without any more shudder. It seems reasonable that the first step to fix a shudder is to change the transmission fluid and add an additive like Shudder Fixx.
