In this video, I demonstrate a complete transmission fluid exchange on this 2016 Ford F150 utilizing the transmission's oil cooler return line and a 5 gallon bucket pump. This process ensures a complete recycling of fluid in the transmission, torque converter, and cooler. I did this service immediately after replacing the transmission filter. By replacing the filter first, new fluid is drawn into the transmission from the pan through the filter. The filter and transmission are only supplied new fluid as all waste fluid is pumped into a waste oil bucket from the transmission oil cooler return line. Ford recommends a complete system fluid exchange be done at 150,000 miles. However, my vehicle only had 95,000 miles on it, and I found the fluid quality to be highly degraded.
