Rattle can spray paint, Scraper, Sandpaper, Masking tape, Drop clothI attempted to touch up an area of cracking, splintering, and flaking paint on a vehicle using rattle can spray paint. Identifying the color code of the original factory paint used on the 2013 Lexus RX 350, I ordered online a matching spray paint kit (Spectral Paints on Amazon.com). After scraping and sanding off any remaining original flaking paint, I prepared the rear door area for touch up painting. Using the paint system consisting of three different rattle cans, I completed the paint job and was pleasantly surprised with the final result. While the paint job is clearly not a factory job, the result was great value for the money (~$120). Any professional paint job required painting of the entire panel at a much greater cost (~$1000). Given the age of the vehicle, the professional paint job would not have been financially worth the expense. The Lexus is now much more presentable with minimal do-it-yourself investment.
