It's not just guitars. You should also be keeping this in mind when looking at any fretted musical instrument, especially ones that have a lot of tension like 12 string guitars and mandolins. This is one of the most common sad cases I get in the shop. There a a lot of people selling old acoustics on craigslist, reverb and ebay that need neck resets. They might put them up at a pretty good price so people buying those guitars think they are getting a good deal, when in reality they are saddling themselves up with a lemon that will need a lot of work to get it playing again.
