garden hose, breaker switch, adjustable wrench or pliersThis concept is the exact same for a gas heater. Simply turn off the gas or electric before operating.
To begin, turn off the power at the breaker (if electric). Turn off the water at the water heater. Open a hot water faucet to ensure air pockets can escape and the water drains from the lines. Hook up the garden hose to the bottom of the heater and run it outside or to a drain. Open the water drain valve and let the water flow out. Should there be any clog, try kinking the hose at different areas, including at the base of the water heater, to try to release any build up that may be causing the clog.
