1 1/16 inch socket, socket wrench, metal pipeTo replace a hex head anode rod on the top of a water heater, you will need a 1 1/16 inch socket and a socket wrench. If you can't turn the anode rod, slip a metal pipe over the handle of the socket wrench for more leverage.
